The Name Of C-Section – Either In Practice Or In Name?

Giving birth to a healthy baby is always a dream for a lady. And the delivery process is achieved by either normal or vaginal delivery or C-section. In this blog, we will discuss about C-section process and where the name of it came from.

What is C-section?

C- section also known as caesarean section is procedure through which baby gets delivered. After trying for normal delivery if mother is not able to give birth to deliver normally, then C-section is performed. An incision in mother’s abdomen and uterus is done. Sometimes it is decided before entering labour room that she will have a C-section.

Conditions ends up to a C-section:

• This decision follows if the mother had a previous C-section experience. Then doctors take decision of further C-section otherwise her uterus will rupture during vaginal delivery.
• Again, if the mother is experienced with invasive uterine surgery then doctors take decision to perform a C-section to her.
• Mothers those carry more than one baby or twin pregnancy or the baby is too large to sustain vaginal delivery will also experience C-section.
• Babies those are in breech or bottom first and traverse or sideways positions in the womb also recommended delivering through C-section.
• Babies have obstruction to make vaginal delivery or mother have HIV-positive or babies have any abnormalities are also ends up to a caesarean delivery.

How did Caesarean sections get their name? The C-section name finds its origin from the name of Julius Caesar. There is a common theory which says that he had also born like this. But many studies proved this story as probably false. They claim that even before Caesar in Rome many babies took birth through this procedure. Actually, the name “caesarean” came from the Latin word “Caedare” which means “to cut”. And the procedure which cuts into the uterus is known as caesarean section or C-section. This C-section has become very common in recent days in delivery of babies. But in ancient times, this procedure was done to deliver those babies whose mothers are already died before giving birth. But the procedure is called C-section rather than c-surgery? The word “section” means “the act of cutting” in medicine.

During this operation, the baby is taken out from the abdomen of the mother.  Most of the operations tend to result in healthy mothers and babies. But having said so, it does carries some amount of risk and it is not like a vaginal birth. It is just like any other form of surgery as your body would need some amount of time to recover after a surgery. You are expected to stay in the hospital for a week after this surgery.

Thus, in recent years, caesarean or C-section has become a necessity for delivery of baby due to various complications in women reproductive system. And this is done in consultation of doctors, midwife and parents.
